Nature Outfitters was opened in May 1989 by Tim McMannis at 211 Garfield Avenue a small side street in Historic Milford. Tim a former manager of Wilderness Trace Outfitters eagerly wanted to continue in his outfitting career after Wilderness Trace's demise in 1988. With great gear and impeccable customer service Nature Outfitters carved out a niche on the east side as a leading canoeing, kayaking, backpacking and camping outfitter.

In the summer of 1994 Bernie Steinkamp met Tim McMannis. Bernie Steinkamp not only invested in the shop but also brought an incredible sense of customer service and a "going the extra mile" kind of attitude. Shortly, thereafter Nature Outfitters moved to 106 Main Street. With increased visibility and increased stock the move would prove to be beyond fruitful. Thanks to a new location Nature Outfitters would gain a reputation not only locally but regionally as well.

In 1998 Bernie and Tim purchased the old Five and Dime building and moved once again, this time tripling their square footage. With an increased floor space and even more gear to drool over, Nature Outfitters had made a name for itself as a premier paddlesports, backpacking, and camping outfitter in the Midwest.

As we approach our 15th year in Historic Milford we think back on all that has happened at Nature Outfitters. From our humble beginnings to being part of the renovation of downtown and the old Five and Dime building into our present location, Nature Outfitters has become a pillar of the Historic Old Mill district.

We are incredibly grateful to our customers. We are incredibly proud for being an independent shop, not a big box chain store, in our dedication to carrying the highest quality equipment, at reasonable prices and doing so with the best customer service in the Greater Cincinnati area.
